Rupite

Rupite ( Bulgarian Рупите ) is a village in the municipality of Petrich, in Blagoevgrad Province in southwestern Bulgaria today. Rupite belongs to the geographical region of Macedonia and is situated at an altitude of 147 meters above sea level. About six miles south-west from the village is the administrative headquarters of Petrich. About three kilometers east of the village flows the river Struma.

Near the village there is a thermal and medicinal source is (source temperature 75 ° C). Baba Vanga, a famous seer, lived in Rupite. Main sources of income are agriculture and regional, as well as for some years pilgrim tourism.

History

Rupite was until 1951 the name Schirbanowo ( Ширбаново ). The village is also mentioned in 1876 under the name Schirban ( Ширбан ). Alternative names are also Scharbanovo or Sirbanowo. In 1951, the town was renamed and was called to 1993 Muletarowo. In 1994, the Church of St. Petka ( храм Св. Петка ) was consecrated in honor of the famous seer Baba Vanga.
