The tail glossy starling ( Lamprotornis purpuropterus ) is a species of bird in the family of starlings.

Appearance

The tail glossy starling is about 35 cm tall. The plumage of adult birds is colored in dark, shiny metallic shades of blue and purple shimmers. The head is black and the eyes are very pale yellow to ivory. Legs and beak are dark gray. The tail is compared to other members of the genus Actual glossy starlings very long and appear in the lower third graded by the different long tail feathers at the edge.

The juveniles see the adults already very similar, but their plumage is duller and darker eyes.

Distribution and habitat

Life and voice
