Ruskin Bond

Ruskin Bond ( born May 19, 1934 in Kasauli, Himachal Pradesh ) is an Anglo - Indian writer.

Life

Bonds father was Scottish, but was born in India, his mother was Anglo - Indian. After the divorce of the parents and the early death of his father, Ruskin Bond grew up partly with his grandparents in Dehradun and partly in boarding schools. After India became independent in 1947, Bonds emigrated grandparents and other relatives to England. The now married to an Indian mother stayed with the son in the country.

After finishing school Bond spent four years in England. In London he began at age seventeen his first novel, The Room on the Roof, the strongly autobiographical story of the orphaned young Anglo- Indian Rusty, of his over-strict foster father, a British missionary, escapes and a family gets to know which allowed him to comfortably set up in a chamber on the flat roof of their house. From the advance, the Bond received for this book, he bought a boat ticket to Bombay and returned to India. He worked for several years as a journalist in Dehradun and New Delhi. Since 1963 he works as a freelance writer in Mussoorie.

Ruskin Bond's works include novels, short stories, longer stories, essays, travelogues and youth books. In India, especially his short stories are popular and have been launched several times. His story published in 1975 A Flight of Pigeons ( " A flock of pigeons " ) was established in 1978 under the title of a movie Junoon ( "madness" ) by Shyam Benegal and went as a classic in the history of Hindi film one. Bond was honored for the short stories Our Trees Still Grow In Dehra in 1992 with the price of the Sahitya Akademi ( Academy of Literature ) English literature in India. For his contributions to literature, he received the 1999 national award Padma Shri.
