Ruslan Aushev

Ruslan Aushev Sultanowitsch (Russian Руслан Султанович Аушев; born October 29, 1954 in Wolodarskoje, Kokchetav Oblast, Kazakh SSR, Soviet Union) is a Soviet and later Russian general and politician of Ingush nationality. From March 1993 to December 2001 he was President of the Republic of Ingushetia.

Life

Ruslan Aushev was educated in the Soviet Army, was commander at the Soviet troops in Afghanistan in 1982 and was awarded with the Order of Hero of the Soviet Union. On February 28, 1993, he ran as the only candidate for election to the presidency in Ingushetia, which he won according to official figures with 99.99 % of votes.
