Russell L. Rogers

Russell Lee Rogers ( born April 12, 1928 in Lawrence ( Kansas), † September 13, 1967 near Kadena Air Base, Okinawa ) was a Lieutenant Colonel ( Lieutenant Colonel ) of the United States Air Force and USAF astronaut.

Rogers received in 1958 a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from the University of Colorado and was selected in April 1960 as Dyna- Soar astronaut. He ended his career as an astronaut in December 1963 with the cancellation of the Dyna- Soar program without being flown into space. Rogers remained with the USAF and died in a plane crash with an F -105 when his parachute did not open.
