Russia Tower

The Russia Tower (Russian Башня Россия ) was a proposed skyscraper in Moscow, which might arise in the context of the new business center Moscow City.

History

The plans for the building date back to the 1990s. However, it was announced in March 2006 that it planned to build the facility in the context of the business center Moscow City. The 118 -story building was designed by British architect Norman Foster. With a height of 612 meters, it should be the second tallest building in the world ( built in 2010 at 828 meters ) after the Burj Khalifa in Dubai. He would also have the Chicago Spire exceeded by two meters. In the lower part of the skyscraper, which is similar in shape to a spearhead, offices were planned in the middle of a hotel, luxury apartments above should arise; in Building 101 elevators were provided. The total investment was estimated at 1.5 billion U.S. dollars, with completion scheduled for 2012.

The groundbreaking ceremony took place on 18 September 2007. In the fall of 2008, however, had to be discontinued due to financial problems in the meantime begun foundation work and site preparation.

Freeze

On 21 November 2008, the construction work had to be interrupted due to the international economic crisis caused by the financial difficulties. In the meantime there were various alternative plans for the building. In the spring of 2009 the construction project was then completely canceled due to the ongoing financial problems. Current Development

In January 2012 it was reported the Moscow administration has decided to continue the construction and finish by 2016, but the height of the tower is to be reduced to 360 meters. This, however, no further details were more known until the spring of 2014. Whether the building is ever built, it is not clear.
