Ruy Castro

Ruy Castro ( born February 27, 1948 in Caratinga, Minas Gerais ) is a Brazilian writer, journalist and translator, best known for his biographies and reports.

He began his career as a reporter in Rio de Janeiro in 1974 set journal Correio da Manhã and has since contributed to other newspapers and magazines of Jornal do Brasil, Folha de S. Paulo to Playboy.

Since the 1990s he has focused mainly on writing books. His best-known biographies relate to the life of the playwright and novelist Nelson Rodrigues, the soccer idol Garrincha and the Sanges and acting icon of the 1930s and 40s Carmen Miranda. Attention was also his historical treatment of the Bossa Nova and the football club Flamengo. More books devoted to his adopted hometown of Rio de Janeiro. On the field of fictional literature, he has written so far only some youth books.

As a translator, he has transferred Alice in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll and Frankenstein by Mary Shelley into Portuguese.

Ruy Castro's works have been translated into numerous other languages. In German were of him so far only Bossa Nova (2005) and Garrincha (2006) published.
