Rwandan monarchy referendum, 1961

The referendum in Rwanda in 1961 was held on 25 September 1961. The vote concerned the question whether the Kingdom of Rwanda - then part of the Belgian Ruanda-Urundi - after independence the following year should remain a monarchy and whether the reigning King Kigeli V. should remain king.

With a turnout of 95 percent, nearly 80 % of voters answered both questions negatively.
