RWE Supply & Trading CZ

RWE Supply & Trading CZ is currently the largest natural gas distributor and importer in the Czech Republic. RWE Supply & Trading CZ is a subsidiary of the German utility company RWE. The company was created from the former company RWE Gas Trans.

Background

The German energy company RWE acquired in 2002 for EUR 4.1 billion, a majority stake in the state until then Czech society Trans Gas and additional shares in four regional gas companies. Upon acquisition of the shares by the National Property Fund of the Czech Republic it was one of the largest privatization in the Czech Republic after the country's transition to a market economy. Since 2005, the Company acted under the name Trans RWE gas.

From 2007, the total activities of RWE in the Czech Republic were largely unbundled in accordance with the EU requirements and 2012 under the umbrella of the newly formed corporation RWE Česká republika, as positioned. After that its subsidiary RWE Transgas acted as a pure gas wholesalers. The other subsidiaries Net4Gas (formerly RWE Transgas Net ) and RWE Gas Storage ( natural gas storage operators ) were added to separate companies under RWE Česká republika.

Net4Gas

Net4Gas guaranteed as TSOs the transit of natural gas through the Czech Republic and the supply of domestic Czech customers with natural gas. Net4Gas has the Czech part of the Trans gas pipeline from Lanzhot, on the Czech- Slovak border, Olbernhau in Germany. As early as 1997, during the time of former state-owned company Trans Gas, whose market position was weakened in transit operations, as the competing Yamal -Europe pipeline was put into operation. Another competitor is now the Nord Stream link between Russia and Germany via the Baltic Sea.

In March 2013, RWE has sold the network operator Net4Gas for a purchase price of € 1.6 billion to a consortium consisting of the German insurer Allianz and the Canadian infrastructure fund Borealis Infrastructure.
