Ryanair Flight 4102

Another Ryanair Boeing 737-800

Ryanair Flight 4102 was a flight of Irish budget airline Ryanair. On 10 November 2008, the machine had to perform an emergency landing at the airport Rome Ciampino due to bird strike. Here, ten people were injured.

The machine of the type Boeing 737-800 lifted at 06:30 clock in Frankfurt -Hahn for the flight to Rome. When landing at the airport, there was a bird strike, in which the fuselage nose and the engines were badly damaged. Despite the failure of two engines, the aircraft reached the runway and sat at 07:56 in Rome. For the hard landing, the landing gear was indeed heavily damaged, the aircraft remained capable of rolling, so that after a temporary leaving the runway, the machine could be brought to a halt at end of track. During the evacuation of the passengers via the emergency slides the left main landing gear buckled and pushed with great force through the wing. The Boeing 737 then pointed to as major structural damage that only seven months old machine had to be written off.

Accident investigators found bird remains of starlings in the turbines and therefore announced. ( Also because of the misfortune of U.S. Airways flight 1549), the CFM - 56 engines to check, to make them permanently secure against bird strike
