Rychvald

Rychvald ( German Reich Waldau, Polish Rychwałd ) is a town with 6780 inhabitants in the Czech Republic. It lies on the northeastern outskirts of Ostrava, 220 m above sea level. Level and belongs to the Okres Karviná. The land area is 1704 ha

Geography

The city is located on the right bank of the Stružka in a pond landscape in Moravian- Silesian Ostrava in the pan. It belongs to the metropolitan region of Ostrava. Neighboring towns are the Ostrava districts Michálkovice and Heřmanice in the southwest. In the north, Záblatí and Bohumín follows, in the east Lutyně, Poruba and Orlová and south Podlesí and Dvorek.

History

The first mention of Empire Waldau in the Duchy of Teschen comes from the decade list of the bishops of Wroclaw from the year 1305.

1577 was the owner of the reign of Bernard Barsky build the best pattern Stary Dvůr castle. In 1595 the church of St. Anne was born.

Until the 19th century kingdom Waldau was a purely farming village that was transformed by the coal industry in the area to a mining camp. In the second half of the 19th century was rebuilt the castle.

After the collapse of the imperial monarchy kingdom Waldau was awarded in 1918 in the division of Cieszyn Poland and the country after the end of the Polish- Czechoslovak border war came to the city in 1920 for Czechoslovakia. After the Munich Agreement occupied on 11 October 1938, the Polish army Rychvald. On 1 September 1939 followed the Wehrmacht and until May 1, 1945 belonged to the German Reich Waldau district of Teschen.

1945, the castle owner Georg Starhemberg was expropriated. Since 1985 Rychvald is a city. The Stary Dvůr castle is currently in a very dilapidated condition.
