Rydal Mount

Wordsworth was born in 1770 in Cockermouth, Cumberland, and knew the Lake District since childhood. Because of his studies at the University of Cambridge in 1787, he moved to Cambridge. After graduating, he traveled through England and Europe for twelve years. After that, he lived eight years in Dove Cottage in Grasmere ( 1799-1808 ). He was forced to move but by his growing family and many visitors. After a short time in the Allan Bank in Grasmere Wordsworth moved in 1813 after Rydal Mount.

Rydal Mount in 1969 by Mary Henderson ( born Wordsworth ) acquired a great-great- granddaughter of the poet. It thus remains in possession of the Wordsworth family and is accessible since 1970 to the public.
