Rysy

The Rysy ( Rysy German, Hungarian Tengerszem - Csúcs ) is a mountain on the Polish- Slovak border in the High Tatras. The highest point is in Slovakia and reaches a height of 2503 m nm northwesterly peak is 2499.6 m npm the highest mountain in Poland. The southeast summit reaches 2473 m.

Location

The state border runs along the north ridge and the west ridge; East wall and south-western flank belong to Slovakia, the northwestern flank of Poland. The main peak is located just south of the meeting point of North and West Ridge.

Origin of the name

The German name " Rysy " derives from the north-west ( on the Polish side ) of the mountain tarn called Meerauge from (Polish Morskie Oko ). The numerous mountain lakes in the Tatras hot polish oka ( German: "eyes", singular: oko ) or - especially the larger - stawy ( German: " ponds ", singular: staw ), Slovak plesa ( singular: Pleso ).

Routes to the summit

  • The easiest ascent is from Slovakia ago: from Popradské Pleso 1494 m nm or an hour's walk from the train stop deeper " Popradské Pleso " on the Chata pod Rysmi (2250 m Rysy - hut), to the south ridge and through this easily to the summit ( T 3).
