Ryszard Kapuściński

Ryszard Kapuściński listen / i ( born March 4, 1932 in Pinsk, Belarus today; † January 23, 2007 in Warsaw)? Was a Polish reporter, journalist and author. He is one of the most translated authors in Poland.

Life

Kapuściński was born on March 4, 1932 in what was then eastern Poland Pinsk. He grew up in a family of teachers. 1940 his mother fled with him before deportation to Siberia; allegedly was his father flee from a Soviet prisoner of war transport that will bring him would have to Katyn.

In 1945 his family moved to Warsaw. There he married in 1952 Alicja Mielczarek and started in the same year his studies in history at the University of Warsaw. After his return, he worked in the editorial of the magazine " Polityka ". In 1962 he was back for the PAP in Africa go. 1967, immediately after his stay in Africa, he traveled to the Soviet Union. In 1967 he took his trip to South America, where he spent six years working for the PAP as a foreign correspondent. Furthermore, he was a consultant of the Polish magazine " Kontynenty ". He was six honorary doctorates. In total, he received more than 40 awards and honors. Kapuściński was a member of the Polish Penclubs ( Stowarzyszenie Pisarzy Polskich ).

January 23, 2007 Kapuściński died in Banach Hospital in Warsaw at the following heart surgery.
