S. Varalakshmi

S. Varalakshmi (* 1927 in Jaggampeta; † 22 September 2009 in Chennai, Tamil Nadu ) was an Indian film actress and singer. She starred in the Tamil and Telugu film, occasionally also in the Kannada film.

Life

Her first film appearances she had as a child in K. Subramanyams social dramas Balayogini (1936, Telugu version) and Seva Sadan (1938). From 1939 onwards, she appeared in several films by G. Ramabrahmam, including in their first adult role in Mayalokam (1945 ) and Palnati Yuddham (1949 ). In the 1950s, she was one of the main actors of the Tamil film and also had several musical successes. In 1957 she founded her own film company Varalakshmi film. In the 1960s, she was often seen in mythological films of the Telugu film industry in addition to NT Rama Rao.

S. Varalakshmi played in at least 129 films. She was with the film producer AL Srinivasan, an older brother of Tamil poet Kannadasan, married.
