S.C.A.N. 20

The S.C.A.N. 20 was a two-seat training flying boat of the French manufacturer Société de Construction Aéronavale.

History

The S.C.A.N. 20 was developed after a competitive tender of the French Air Ministry for a training flying boat of the " Marine Nationale ". The prototype was constructed in 1941 by Bernard Devèze and built on in secret after the occupation of Vichy France. The first flight took place on October 6, 1945. Potez 30 aircraft with the stronger 8D engine were given for the French Navy in order, but only 23 delivered. According to another source the order of the French Government on only 23 machines before construction was however canceled.

Construction

The machine was a largely constructed of wood cantilever high wing, arranged under the outer wing support floats. She had been a high- translated double tail and a closed cockpit for four people with juxtaposed seats in two rows. The prototype was equipped with a 6- Béarn D- series engine on the wing and drove a pusher propeller.
