Sa'adu Abubakar

Muhammad Sa'ad Abubakar ( born August 24, 1956 in Sokoto ) is the Sultan of Sokoto.

Abubakar is the son of the former Sultan Siddiq Abu Bakar dan Usuman and the younger brother of his predecessor Mohammadu Maccido. He attended the Nigerian Defence Academy in 1975 in Kaduna and came two years later as a second lieutenant in the Nigerian army. As a member of an elite force he was educated in India and Canada and served in the 80s in the bodyguard of the Nigerian President Ibrahim Babangida and peacekeepers in Chad and Sierra Leone. Most recently, he was military attaché to Pakistan until it was determined on 2 November 2006 after the death of the Sultan of Sokoto Mohammadu Maccidos.

As Sultan of Sokoto, Abubakar is the spiritual leader of 70 million Nigerian Muslims. He is also the titular head of the Sokoto State and head of the Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs.

Sa'ad Abubakar and the Archbishop of Abuja, John Onaiyekan have, pronounced in 2009 in Lagos in a joint press conference against religious disputes and for cooperation of Islam and Christianity in Nigeria. Both are co-presidents of the " Nigerian Association of action for the faith ".

He was one of the 138 signatories of the open letter A Common Word between Us and You (English A Common Word Between Us and You), the personalities of Islam to "leaders of Christian churches everywhere" (English " Leaders of Christian Churches, everywhere ... " ) submitted (13 October 2007).
