The Russian S- 300PMU -1, NATO reporting name SA-20 Gargoyle, is a mobile, all-weather long -range surface -to-air missile system to combat fighter aircraft and cruise missiles in all flight altitudes. Similarly, ballistic short-and medium -range missiles are intercepted. It is the successor to the S- 300PMU (SA- 10F Grumble ) and is to be replaced by the S-400 Triumf.

System

During the 1980s, various versions of the S- 300P air defense system developed. The first systems were given by the NATO designation SA -10 Grumble. The S- series 300PMU last two systems, the S- 300PMU - 1 and S- 300PMU -2, differ significantly from their predecessors and were given in 2003 by the NATO designation SA-20 Gargoyle.   • SA -20A Gargoyle ( S- 300PMU -1) first production version, introduced in 1989.
  • SA -20B Gargoyle ( S- 300PMU -2 ) 2 series version, introduced in 1993.
  • SA -N -20 Gargoyle ( S- 300FM ) Marine version, installed on the last cruiser of the Kirov - class.

Performance / capacity

Soaring flight destinations can be fought at a distance of 200 km. A destination at an altitude of 100 m can be fought at a maximum distance of 38 km. For a destination at an altitude of 50 m, the maximum destruction distance is 28 km. With the S - 300PM - 2 system medium range ballistic missiles can be intercepted with a maximum range of 1000 km. This can s be fought at a distance of 40 kilometers to a maximum flight speed of 2800 m / s.

  • Russia Russia - 26 batteries in use (including older S- 300PM 13 batteries )
  • Vietnam Vietnam - two batteries S- 300PMU -1 with six launch vehicles
  • Greece Greece - two batteries S- 300PMU -1 with six launch vehicles

The planned export to Syria Syria was the end of August 2013 stopped in light of the crisis in Syria for the time being.
