Minsk Automobile Plant

Minski autamabilny zavod (short MAZ; Russian Минский автомобильный завод; belarusian Мінскі аўтамабільны завод, Minski autamabilny zavod to German Minsk Automobile Plant ) is a Belarusian vehicle manufacturers from Minsk. In addition to trucks and buses are produced.

History

MAZ is one of the oldest and largest enterprises of Belarus. In June 1944, the State Committee of Defense of the USSR decided to establish a commercial vehicle manufacturer in Minsk. The plan was the production of covered vehicles with two- and three-axle trucks, as well as Zweiachssattelschleppern. In October 1947, the first five trucks of the 200 series were eventually produced with approximately seven tons of payload, which were produced until the mid- 1960s. Towards the end of the 1950s was developed with the 500 series, a new front driver, which finally became the successor of the 200 series in different model variants in 1965. The new model MAZ -500 with the drive Formula 4 × 2 had a modern steel cab and a maximum payload of eight tons. In addition, a three-axle truck ( MAZ -516 ) was produced with ten tons of payload from 1970. From the late 1970s there appeared a new heavy truck series, the Western European manufacturers had a role model. Examples include, in the long-haulage tractor MAZ - 5432 as a two-axle cab-over and the model MAZ - 6422 as a three-axle cab-over. Motorised are these trucks with V8 turbo diesel engines Jamz. Both models were developed under the name MAZ - 54321 and MAZ - 64221 and received more powerful engines. They are produced with slight modifications to the present.

After the collapse of the Soviet Union MAZ intensified relations with MAN. Since 1997 there finally a joint venture with MAN. There are (white russian МАЗ -MAN) offered here trucks with components of MAN under the name MAZ -MAN. In addition, MAZ trucks are produced in Vietnam and since July 2004 in Iran. In October 2013, a treaty was signed which provides for the installation of commercial vehicles MAZ in the South American country with the government of Ecuador. Mainly it comes to the manufacture of buses based on the trucks models MAZ - 4371 and MAZ - 5340 for the Ecuadorian market.

Multi-axle heavy trucks are manufactured in MZKT subsidiary, which was established in 1991. The products are sold under the brand name Bench.

Special models

MAZ -535 and MAZ -537: The MAZ -535 and MAZ -537 were heavier version designed and built to transport missiles of various types and tanks in the early 1960s.

MAZ -543: The MAZ -543 was also designed for the transport of medium and long- range missiles and has the same specifications as the MAZ -537. The MAZ -543 is primarily known as a mobile missile launching pad of Scud missiles. In addition, there are various modifications of the vehicle as the MAZ -547 as a mobile launch pad for SS - 20 missiles or the MAZ - 7917 as a launch pad of Topol intercontinental ballistic missiles.

MAZ - 7904: The MAZ - 7904 is the largest wheeled vehicle that has ever been constructed in the USSR for military purposes. This prototype, which was designed in 1982 as a carrier vehicle for ICBMs, but never came close to a serial stage.

MAZ - 7907: The MAZ - 7907 was developed in 1985. Two prototypes were manufactured, one of which seems to have been used at least one after the disintegration of the USSR, for the transport of bridge parts, and vessels. The whereabouts are unclear.
