Minski autamabilny zavod (short MAZ; Russian Минский автомобильный завод; belarusian Мінскі аўтамабільны завод, Minski autamabilny zavod to German Minsk Automobile Plant ) is a Belarusian vehicle manufacturers from Minsk. In addition to trucks and buses are produced.

History

MAZ is one of the oldest and largest enterprises of Belarus. In June 1944, the State Committee of Defense of the USSR decided to establish a commercial vehicle manufacturer in Minsk. The plan was the production of covered vehicles with two- and three-axle trucks, as well as Zweiachssattelschleppern. In October 1947, the first five trucks of the 200 series were eventually produced with approximately seven tons of payload, which were produced until the mid- 1960s. Towards the end of the 1950s was developed with the 500 series, a new front driver, which finally became the successor of the 200 series in different model variants in 1965. Both models were developed under the name MAZ - 54321 and MAZ - 64221 and received more powerful engines. They are produced with slight modifications to the present.

After the collapse of the Soviet Union MAZ intensified relations with MAN. Since 1997 there finally a joint venture with MAN. There are (white russian МАЗ -MAN) offered here trucks with components of MAN under the name MAZ -MAN. In addition, MAZ trucks are produced in Vietnam and since July 2004 in Iran. In October 2013, a treaty was signed which provides for the installation of commercial vehicles MAZ in the South American country with the government of Ecuador. Mainly it comes to the manufacture of buses based on the trucks models MAZ - 4371 and MAZ - 5340 for the Ecuadorian market.

Multi-axle heavy trucks are manufactured in MZKT subsidiary, which was established in 1991. The products are sold under the brand name Bench.

Special models

  • MAZ -535 and MAZ -537: The MAZ -535 and MAZ -537 were heavier version designed and built to transport missiles of various types and tanks in the early 1960s.
