Sabine Moritz

Sabine Moritz (born 1969 in Quedlinburg ) is a German painter and graphic artist.

Life and work

Sabine Moritz was born in 1969 as the daughter of a chemist. She grew from 1973 to 1981 in the plate section of Lobeda in Neulobeda on. Then her family moved to Jena and left in 1985 - even before the fall of the wall - the GDR. In 1989 she began studying at the Hochschule für Gestaltung Offenbach am Main. where she was in painting class from Adam Jankowski. As of 1991, she continued her education at the Art Academy Dusseldorf, initially in the class of Markus Liipertz and from 1992 in the class of Gerhard Richter. Sabine Moritz was the last student, the judge recorded in his class because he wanted to end his teaching career in 1994.

Since 1995, Moritz is married to her former teacher Gerhard Richter. From the relationship had three children.

The exhibition at London's Andrew Mummery Gallery from February 15 to March 18, 2006 the catalog " Limbo " was released. The focus of the publication was on the two seemingly contradictory themes of war and still life, the latter in the form of images with orchids, roses and lilies in vases. In this series, the artist deals mainly with the difficult coping with the Terrible and beauty.

The publication " Roses " consists of 37 drawings made between 2004 and 2009. This band is bracketed by two poems; the first of Adam Zagajewski and finally " The Sick Rose" by William Blake. In the figures, the artist uses a mixture of charcoal, pastel colors and oil pastels.

Between 1991 and 1992 the character series " Lobeda " was created with more than 100 pencil drawings that were found in 2009 by the curator of the Serpentine Gallery, Hans- Ulrich Obrist, the artist's studio and were published in 2010 by the Walther König. The series consists of more than 100 mostly similar images that her childhood memories from the time documented almost like a diary until 1985. The monochrome drawings are executed in charcoal and pencil. Moritz had Lobeda again visited and researched family albums and other pictures of the city. From August to September 2011, the drawings were exhibited at the Kunsthaus Sans Titre in Potsdam.

Two years after she began her art studies, she began her experience in her art to process and drew houses, public spaces and the interiors her famous buildings. Published in 2011, Walther König, the band " Jena, Dusseldorf ". This publication presents the continuation of the series characters " Lobeda " within the direct connection created this second series has a more personal connection. They show again her memory of everyday life in East Germany and other contemporary scenes from their former surroundings in Dusseldorf.

2011 appeared the band " Lilies and Objects", which was originally conceived as a collection of flower paintings in charcoal and oil paints. 2013, a summary of her work was shown as part of the exhibition Free view / Adam Jankowski and artists from his painting class at the Offenbach School of Design from 1987 to 2013.

Sabine Moritz as a motive

Richter has his wife, and his wife with her first son Moritz, repeatedly portrayed. As early as 1994 painted Gerhard Richter - as always after a photographic template - images of his later third wife.
