Sablefish ( Anoplopoma fimbria )

The sablefish ( Anoplopoma fimbria ) is one of two species of fish from the family of Skilfische ( Anoplopomatidae ) and the only species of the genus Anoplopoma.

Features

Coley will be a maximum of 1.20 meters long, over 50 kg can be difficult and reach an age of over 100 years. They have an elongated body with two by a clear gap separated dorsal fins. The anal fin is symmetrical to the second dorsal fin. Your body is covered with small, easily ctenoiden shed. Juveniles under a length of 15 cm blue-black on top and white on the belly side. Animals with a length between 30 and 60 cm are often greenish, with a stripe pattern on the back side. Adult fish are oberseits blackish (name ) or green -gray, with some lighter patches, and on the ventral side is lighter. There are also different colors, pure yellow or albino animals.

Habitat, distribution and life habits

The sablefish is spread over the entire North Pacific from Japan to the Bering Sea and Alaska to the central Baja California and Isla de Cedros. Its habitats are muddy seabeds in 300-2700 meters depth. Carbon fish feed on prey on smaller fish, krill, jellyfish and cephalopods.

Use

The sablefish in Japan is a prized food fish, its meat has a high content of long-chain omega -3 fatty acids (EPA and DHA).
