Sabrina Starke

Sabrina Starke ( born August 9, 1979 in Paramaribo, Suriname) is a Dutch singer- songwriter from Rotterdam. She became famous in 2008 with their gold album Yellow Brick Road. Your musical direction alternates between soul, rhythm & blues and jazz.

Life

Born in Suriname Strong came before the completion of their first year of life in the Netherlands. From the age of 20 years she pursued a career as a musician determined. First, she sang in the Rhythm & Blues lineup Maintain and four years later in the Rotterdam Reggae Band Equal. She learned guitar and began to compose their own repertoire and texts. In May 2007, she won the " Talent Night " at the sold out " Oude Luxor " to Rotterdam. Only then she got the opportunity to record his own album. The title is the musical film The Wiz (1978 ) borrowed a remake of The Wizard of Oz On 9 March 2009 the total sales of the album in the Netherlands Gold status. In the Dutch album charts Yellow Brick Road reached the highest placing ninth and stayed almost a year in the charts.

On 27 October 2008 she signed with Blue Note in order to bring out new Yellow Brick Road in the USA. In February 2009, Strong traveled to New York to with producer Billy Mann (including Pink, Celine Dion, Carole King, Joss Stone and Mary J. Blige ) and his team at Blue Note Records to work. It created two new songs for her: Home Is You (together with Pete Wallace and Lisa Green ) and A Woman's Gonna Try ( with Pete Wallace and Billy Mann ). Both were taken as bonus songs on the U.S. edition, the latter was released in June in the Netherlands as a single and peaked in the top 100 ranked 18th

The Dutch music awards " Edison Jazzism Publieksprijs " and " Edison Best Pop award for best newcomer " she was also in 2009. Prices are based on a joint initiative of the Edison Foundation and the journal Jazzism. The singer had 2009 performances at the festivals IJAZZ, Parkpop and North Sea Jazz.

The second album Bags & Suitcases originated in 2010 in Miami, Florida with producer Pete Wallace (including Pink, Michael Bolton, Herbie Hancock ). The songs are a little more folky than aligned on their debut album and especially on her own guitar playing. It came in 2010 to seventh place in the Netherlands.

In October 2010, Strong went on a nationwide theater tour with the musical show "From the root to the Soul ", in which she played the lead role. Your Surinamese roots play a supporting content topic. The show was booked in excess of 40 Dutch theaters and event organizers.

In early May 2011, she was with Jan Garbarek and Stefanie Heinzmann on the Jazzfest Gronau 23, 2011 on the live acts.
