Saccopharynx ampullaceus
The blind mouths ( Saccopharynx ) or rolling are deep sea fish, Pacific and Indian Ocean at depths up to 4500 meters living in the Atlantic. They are the only genus of the family Saccopharyngidae and belong to the suborder of Pelikanaalartigen ( Saccopharyngoidei ).
Features
Bag mouths 60 centimeters to 1.60 meters long, the tail is longer than the rest of the body. The swirl number is 150 to 300 My mouth is big, strong, stretchy and covered with backward curved teeth. Vomer and parasphenoid, two skull bones are missing. The pectoral fins are small but well developed.
A special feature of this fish is that the lateral line organ, is not like the other fishing in a canal under the skin, but the outside of the body. Presumably, the fish are so sensitive to pressure waves in the water, so that they're easier prey that move perceive and track.
Light organ
At the end of the long, ever thinner tail bag all mouths carry a light organ. It is still unknown what function it performs. The other light organs that have the bag mouths, make a mystery dar. From the top of the skull extending to tail two furrows, which contain a white luminous fabric, spread a dim light. The actual luminous organ is located in the last 15 cm of the tail. Also several small color warts ( papillae ) are still distributed throughout the body. These papillae produce a constantly pink light. The light organ in the tail, in addition to a constantly reddish mica also emit flashes of light.
