The Saxon State is the official residence of the Prime Minister of Saxony. It exists as a ministry since 1995 in the state capital Dresden. In the twenties and thirties of the 20th century there was also a State Chancellery. The building is located in the government district in Inner Neustadt.

Tasks of the State

The Saxon State to assist the Minister in determining the policies of the Saxon policy and clarify fundamental issues of federal and state constitution in the context of policy-making powers of the Prime Minister under Article 63 § 1 of the Constitution of Saxony. It checks as part of the counter-signature of the Prime Minister adopted laws on their constitutionality. The State is concerned with fundamental questions of the Saxon state territory and its classification. In addition, it coordinates the relations of Saxony to the federal government and the other German states as well as international relations and cross- border cooperation with neighboring countries, including support for the work of the Euro regions and the EU Interreg III programs. It also coordinates the work of the Saxon State Government in Federal Affairs and represents the state of Saxony to the Federation. She is in constant communication with the parliament.

Building

The building of the State Chancellery was built as a joint ministry buildings 1900-1904 in neo-Renaissance style at the Neustadt banks of the Elbe between Carola Bridge and Albert Bridge for the Royal Saxon ministries of Interior, Justice and the Ministry of Culture and Public Education. The after designs by Edmund Waldow (head of state higher construction ) and erected by the architect Heinrich Tscharmann building was partially destroyed in 1945 during the bombing of Dresden. After the reconstruction in the 1950s, it was until 1990 the seat of the council of the district of Dresden. Between 1990 and 1994 the building was renovated, while in 1992 replaced the dove of peace on the roof against the original modeled crown. Since 1990 building is the seat of the Saxon State Government and the Saxon State Chancellery.
