Safwan Khalil

Safwan Khalil ( born May 15, 1986 in Tripoli, Libya) is an Australian Taekwondo. It starts in the weight class up to 58 kg.

Khalil is coached by his brother Ali at the Global Martial Arts Centre in Sydney. His first international title fights in the adult area, he competed at the World Championships 2005 in Madrid, where he was able to reach the knockout stages. In the same year he was in Sydney for the first time the Oceania. Further success came in the following years from first. Khalil took until 2011 to gain recognition. In the Universiade in Shenzhen, he won in the class up to 58 kg gold medal, so he took the first win by an Australian Taekwondo practitioners at a Universiade. In Noumea, he finally won the oceanic Olympic qualifying tournament and secured the participation in the 2012 Olympic Games in London. There he was defeated Alexei Denisenko in the fight for the bronze medal.

Khalil is dating Carmen Marton, also Taekwondoin and Olympian in London.
