Saguenay, Quebec

Saguenay is a Canadian city in the province of Quebec and the capital of the district of Saguenay -Lac -Saint -Jean. It lies on the Rivière Saguenay, 180 kilometers north of Quebec City and 50 km east of Lac Saint -Jean. In the year 2011 144.746 people lived in Saguenay.

The economy is based primarily on the timber industry, paper production and aluminum production. Saguenay is the seat of the University of University of Quebec at Chicoutimi ( UQAC )

Structure

Saguenay was created in 2002 by the merger of the towns Chicoutimi, Jonquière, La Baie and Laterrière well as the communities Canton Tremblay, Lac- Kenogami and Shipshaw. Today it is divided into three arrondissements:

  • Chicoutimi ( former territories of Chicoutimi, Laterrière and Tremblay );
  • Jonquière ( former territories of Jonquière, Lac- Kenogami and Shipshaw );
  • La Baie (former area of ​​La Baie )
