Sahnun

Sahnūn ibn Sa ʿ īd at- Tanūchī سحنون بن سعيد التنوخي, DMG Saḥnūn b.Sa ʿ īd at- Tanūḫī (* 776 in Qairawan; † 854 in Qairawan ) is considered the founder of the Maliki school of law ( madhhab ) in North Africa, the Medinan jurisprudence of the school's founders, Maalik ibn Anas further and led to its spread favored by al -Andalus.

In his study trip to the Islamic East, which lasted 16 years, he studied under the students of Maalik ibn Anas in Egypt, Syria and Medina. 806 he returned to Qairawan and asserted itself as a major of the Maliki jurisprudence in addition to the Hanafis, which were been leading in the city, especially in the circle of scholars of Asad ibn al - Furat al - Harrani successfully.

In his last years he was Oberqadi the city and thus held the highest office in the legal life of North Africa.

His life's work is the Mudawwana, the summary of Madinan -Egyptian jurisprudence of the Maliki school of law, which became widespread in the written tradition of his students. According to the current state of research Sahnūn has left no last edition hand. His work lived in several copies and in different arrangements on that were commented several times in the following years. It was first printed in 1905-1906 after a full manuscript in Fez in Cairo.

His grave outside the city walls of Qairawan will be studied in Islamic feast days today.
