Saint Arbogast

Arbogast ( OHG for the foreign heritage, † 618) was a holy bishop of Strasbourg. He was the founder of the monastery Sourburg.

He was born after a tradition in Ireland or Scotland under the name Arascach, according to another tradition he comes from the south of France.

He came to 550 as a missionary to the Alsace and settled in the forest of Haguenau. As he retrieved the boar killed by a son of the Frankish king Dagobert II the legend to life, Dagobert appointed him bishop of Strasbourg.

As bishop of Strasbourg had Arbogast churches and monasteries built and cared for the flourishing of the city. Arbogast is the main founder of Christianity in Alsace. Even during his lifetime, he was highly revered. Arbogast died in 618 in Strasbourg.

A monastery its name was later on the outskirts of Strasbourg.

The costs associated with Arbogast Holy legends tell that he had gone dry-shod over a river, have healed the sick and driven out demons, disputes settled. Allegedly, he was buried under a gallows, to honor a killing innocent people.

Arbogast is the patron of Rufach, Muttenz, Upper Winterthur. He is invoked against foot problems, fatigue and depression. Being a Catholic feast day is July 21.
