Saint-Connan

Saint- Connan ( Breton: Sant - Konan ) is a commune with 304 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Côtes- d'Armor in Brittany. It belongs to the district Guingamp, in the canton of Saint- Nicolas- du- Pélem and is a member of the Association of Local Authorities Kreiz - Breizh.

Geography

The municipality of Saint- Connan is located about 20 kilometers south of Guingamp and about 30 km southwest of Saint- Brieuc. Due to the west of the municipal area of ​​Trieux which feeds a Stauweiher same name in the district of L' Etang Neuf flows.

History

The village of Saint - Connan originated in the early 12th century at the time of the founding of the Abbey Coat Mallouen. The municipality of Saint- Connan long belonged to Saint- Gilles- Pligeaux, only during the French Revolution, an independent municipality was created - 1793 under the name of Conan Roc, 1801 Saint- Connan.

The parish church of Saint -Corentin dates from the 17th century, the neo-Gothic tower was rebuilt in the late 19th century.

In July 1944, the area of Saint- Connan battleground of the Maquis against the German occupiers. The partisans of the Resistance later took part in the liberation of Guingamp and Paimpol.
