Saint-Martin-de-Lixy

Saint -Martin -de- Lixy is a commune with 90 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Saône -et -Loire in the Burgundy region. It belongs to the canton Chauffailles and the Local Government Association.

Geography

Saint -Martin -de- Lixy is located in the south of the department of Saône brionnais -et -Loire to an average height of 347 meters above sea level, 69 kilometers north- west of Lyon and 23 kilometers north east of Roanne. The village is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Châteauneuf, Tancon and Saint -Edmond. The municipality has an area of 4.9 square kilometers. The Sornin flows west of the town center by the municipality.

History

Saint -Martin -de- Lixy was first mentioned in 954 as beati Martini in ville Liciaco documented. In the 18th century it was called Saint -Martin -de- Lissy. Mario Rossi assumes that the village name from the Gallo -Roman period (52 BC to 486 AD ) comes from, is derived from the surname Liccaeus and originally Licciacum (, Location / Country House Liccaeus the family ') was called. The Count of Mâcon placed the parish of Saint -Martin -de- Lixy 961 the collegiate of Mâcon. In the 13th century, the church of Saint -Martin -de- Lixy belonged to the collegiate Saint -Paul in Lyon. In the 18th century the village belonged to the castellany Marquisat Drée.

1793 received Saint -Martin -de- Lixy in the wake of the French Revolution ( 1789-1799 ) under the name Lixy the status of a municipality and 1801 by the administrative reform under Napoleon Bonaparte ( 1769-1821) under the present name, the right to local self-government.

Culture and sights

The church dates from the 12th century and was rebuilt in the 16th century. In 1950 the church was entered in the Register of Monuments historiques addition.

The Barnay castle is located in the southwestern municipality near the Sornin. It was built in the 15th or 16th century ocher-colored sandstone on the foundations of an older building and at that time had a defensive wall. The Seigneurie Barnay already existed in 1066. According to legend, it was once owned by Peter Valdes ( † before 1218 ). It belonged in the 18th century, first Count of Damas, then the Marquis of Drée. It is now in private ownership.
