Saint Nicholas Concathedral

The Co-Cathedral of St. Nicholas (Slovak Konkatedrála svätého Mikuláša ) is a Gothic hall church in the city of Prešov, eastern Slovakia, which is dedicated to St. Nicholas of Myra. Since 2008 she is the Konkathedralkirche of the Archdiocese of Košice, before she was just a simple parish church of St. Nicholas Cathedral and as known. The church is 54.7 meters long, 34.45 meters wide, 16 meters high, the tower measures 71 meters.

The predecessor of the present church was built in 1230 and 1347 was replaced by the present parish church, which had a ship with a tower. 1502-1515, the church was remodeled and expanded to two late Gothic aisles, under the direction of urban master Ján Brengyszey. In the time of the Reformation, the church was the scene of several important events. In the 17th and 18th centuries, only minor repairs were carried out, such as the baroque south portal. The church was burnt out in the years 1685, 1711, 1780, 1788, 1886 and for the last time in 1887. After the fire of 1788 the neo-classical main portal was. The tower was then re-gothicised 1903-1904. A major repairs came in the 1950s and the church received the travertine, a new facade, new stained glass windows and Stations of the Cross. The date last repair was carried out in the period 1982 to 1989.

From the original Gothic and Renaissance features has been preserved only slightly, as the majority has been destroyed by fire, but especially during the uprisings in the 17th century. Gothic include some works by Master Paul of Leutschau as sculptures of angels from the beginning of the 16th century. Until today, but many Gothic elements have received as vaulting, windows and portals. Dominating the interior is the baroque St. Nicholas altar from 1696.
