Saint-Pierre-de-Chartreuse

Saint -Pierre- de -Chartreuse is a French municipality with 1003 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Isère, in the Rhône -Alpes. It is located around 18 kilometers north of Grenoble ( straight line ).

The village is surrounded by the Chartreuse mountain range, in a valley between the mountains Chamechaude ( 2082 m ) in the south, Dent de Crolles ( 2062 m ) to the east, Grand Som ( 2026 m ) in the north and Charmant Som (1867 m) in the southwest, on the banks of the river Guiers - Mort.

About three kilometers north- west of the village is located in a remote valley of La Grande Chartreuse, the mother monastery of the Carthusian Order. Saint- Pierre -de- Chartreuse is also known as a winter sports, there are about 35 km of ski slopes and cross country trails with a length of 33 km.

A known inhabitant was probably the Belgian cabaret singer Jacques Brel, who owned a house here. Named after him, the " Rencontres Brel ", taking place every year since 1987 song festival.
