Saint Pudens

Aquila Pudentius Pudens was a Roman senator and lived in the 1st century.

Its Latin name means The Modest. With his wife Priscilla he had five children. It is possible that he was the Pudens, was a friend of the poet Martial. He had extensive possessions on the Esquiline Hill in Rome. Together with his wife, his two daughters and Pudentiana Praxedis and his two sons, Timothy and Peter Novatus he should have granted hospitality at his home in Rome and given work. This visit is said to have prompted the family to renounce the old gods. As a result, he is said to have organized Christian celebrations and ceremonies in his house. The house is said to have been open to strangers and poor and have been generous towards the poor. Peter is said to have anointed in his house bishops and sent into the world. Aquila Pudens third son Rufus Pudens Pudentianna embarked on a military career and stood as the second highest ranking officer in Britain. He married a Gladys ( which later named Claudia ), allegedly a nobleman from Britain. It should have been a daughter of Caradoc, king of Silurien. Through these same Claudia Rufus Pudens would be considered one of the first Christians in Britain, have been related by their brethren, which are supposed to act around the sacred Cyllin of Silurien and St. Linus, the immediate successor of Peter as Bishop of Rome.
