History
After the Allied landing in Normandy on D-Day, June 6, 1944, the city has long been contested. For example, fought Matthew B. Ridgway, later a senior U.S. general, with the 82nd Airborne Division on D-Day and then fought some 33 days with his troops in and around Saint- Sauveur- le -Vicomte.
