Saint-Victurnien

Saint- Victurnien is a commune with 1699 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Haute -Vienne in the Limousin region. It belongs administratively to the district, as well as Rochechouart in the canton of Saint- Junien -Est and is a member of the Local Government Association, Vienne- Glane.

Geography

The municipality is situated approximately 20 kilometers north- west of Limoges in the Vienne valley, just outside the Parc Naturel Régional Périgord- Limousin, which begins at the southern boundary of the municipality. Neighboring municipalities are:

  • Oradour -sur -Glane in the north,
  • Veyrac in the Northeast,
  • Verneuil -sur -Vienne in the east,
  • Sainte -Marie- de -Vaux in the southeast,
  • Cognac -la -Forêt in the south and
  • Saint -Brice- sur -Vienne in the West.

The municipal seat is located on the right bank of the river Vienne. The municipality extends on both banks. Several short streams drain the area of Vienne, on the southern border is the river Râches.

Transport links

The most important road is the road department D32 that runs along the Vienne and Saint- Victurnien over a bridge changes the river side. Also a railway line runs along the north shore and has in place a stop. On the northern edge of the municipality is the national road N141 runs.
