Sainte-Suzanne (Mayenne)

Sainte -Suzanne is a commune with 977 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Mayenne in the Pays de la Loire. It is located in the arrondissement of Laval and is the capital of the canton of the same name.

Sainte -Suzanne is classified since 2010 as one of the plus beaux villages de France ( most beautiful villages in France ).

Geography

Halfway between Laval and Le Mans Sainte -Suzanne is an old walled town from the 11th century, situated on a rocky elevation in the form of a triangle, 70 feet above the flow of the river erve.

At the foot of the ramparts of the walkway provides Promenade de la postern a wonderful view: in the south against the forest fôret de Charnie and against the Anjou, in the north of the hills of Coëvrons. Sainte -Suzanne Known as the pearl of the department of Mayenne and as one of the most beautiful sights in western France.

Structures

  • In the 6,000 year old dolmen of Erves is one of the oldest and most famous megalithic monuments of the department of Mayenne.
  • The "Glass Blown wall" ( Celtic origin), City Wall, former drawbridge and waiting from the 11th century
  • The bearing of the Englishman or Camp de Beugy 11th century. Camp of William the Conqueror ( 1083-1086 ). This extraordinary monument is thanks to its well-preserved condition a rare witness to the design of the earthworks.
