The University Saitama (Japanese埼 玉 大学Saitama daigaku, in short: Saidai (埼 大) ) is a state university in Japan. The main campus is located in Sakura -ku, Saitama in Saitama Prefecture.

History

The University Saitama was founded in 1949 by the merger of three state schools. The three were:

  • High school Urawa (浦 和 高等学校, Urawa Kōtō Gakko, founded in 1921 ),
  • The Normal School Saitama (埼 玉 师范学校, Saitama shihan Gakko, founded in 1873 ), and
  • Youth Normal School Saitama (埼 玉 青年 师范学校, Saitama his shihan Gakko, founded in 1922 ).

The Secondary School Urawa was one of the preparatory courses for the Imperial Universities, after the Pacific War, they wanted to merge the University of Tokyo; but it was the predecessor of the Faculty of Humanities and Natural Sciences at the University of Saitama.

The Normal School Saitama was the oldest predecessor of the University. It was founded in 1873 as a teacher training school and prefectural divided in 1901 into two schools (for boys and girls). The two were merged in 1943 to the State Normal School. The prefectural normal school for boys was the importer of football in the Saitama Prefecture, that is her former main building (the Hoshokaku (凤翔 阁), built in 1878, removed 1959) a motif in the logo of Urawa Red Diamonds.

The University Saitama opened with two faculties: humanities and natural sciences, and education. 1964, the current campus was reopened, and the faculties moved to the campus has to offer. The Faculty of Humanities and Natural Sciences has developed into the four Faculties: Liberal Arts ( 1965), Economics ( 1965), Natural Sciences ( 1976), and Engineering Sciences (1976).
