Sakichi Toyoda

Sakichi Toyoda (豊 田 佐吉jap, born February 14, 1867 in Kosai, † October 30, 1930 ), son of a carpenter, is referred to as the king of the Japanese inventor. He has invented numerous improvements for looms.

His biggest invention was the automatic power loom, in which he implemented the principle of Jidoka (autonomous automation). The principle of Jidoka means that a machine automatically stops itself when a problem occurs, which later became a part of the production system of Toyota. He developed the concept of the " 5 Why ": When a problem occurs, ask why five times to figure out the cause of the problem. Then change the production process so that the problem can no longer occur. This concept is now part of the 6 Sigma methodology for problem solving, quality improvement and cost reduction.

He had two younger brothers, Sasuke Toyoda Toyoda and Heikichi (1875-1954), the father of Eiji Toyoda.

Toyoda Sakichi is father of a son ( Kiichiro Toyoda ( 1895-1952 ), founder of Toyota Motor Corporation) and a daughter, Aiko Toyoda. He was awarded the Order of The Blue Ribbon and Merit, Third Class. He is also referred to as the father of the industrial revolution in Japan.
