Salcete

Salcete Taluka is a (administrative unit ) in the Indian state of Goa ( in the district of South Goa).

The name comes from a local legend, due to the fact that about 1000 BC 96 Brahmani families ( Saraswats ) came to the Konkani Coast, including 66 in the area of ​​today's Salcete, where they settled; in Sanskrit, 66 sassast, from which the name is derived Salcete.

The largest and at the same time economic and administrative capital of the region is Margao with 78,000 inhabitants (2007 ), also there are the settlements ( comunidades ) Raia, Loutolim, Curtorim, Verna, Benaulim and Cavelossim.
