Salih Mahmoud Osman

Salih Mahmoud Osman (also Saleh Mahmoud Osman Salih Mahmoud Osman and; * 1957) is a Sudanese lawyer and member of parliament.

Osman comes from the Darfur region. He was imprisoned in 2004 for longer and was only released after a hunger strike. Members of his family were tortured and murdered. Even their houses were set on fire by militias.

He campaigns against torture and human rights violations in Sudan. With its Sudanese Organization Against Torture, he granted free legal aid. He also documented human rights violations in Darfur.

In November 2005, the organization Human Rights Watch awarded him for his work.

For his commitment to human rights Osman in 2007 was awarded the Sakharov Prize for Freedom of Thought by the European Parliament.
