Salinicoccus
Salinicoccus is a genus of bacteria. The type species is Salinicoccus roseus.
Features
The types of Salinicoccus are spherical with a diameter of 0.5-2.5 microns. You are not mobile and do not form spores. They are strictly aerobic, that is, they need oxygen. The catalase and oxidase test is positive.
Salinicoccus is moderately halophilic ( salztolerierend ). The different species were, inter alia, found in soda lakes and saline soils. Salinicoccus jeotgali and S. lutues were isolated from the Korean fish sauce Jeotgal. Some species, such as Salinicoccus salsiraiae and S. roseus, reduce under anaerobic nitrate to nitrite. Also alkaliphilic or alkali- tolerant species are present. Salinicoccus alkaliphilus tolerate pH values between 6.5 and 11.5. Best growth occurs at pH 9.0. In Salinicoccus jeotgali are the highest growth rates at pH 7, but also grows at pH values from 6.5 to 11.0.
