The Salmon River (English for "Salmon River ") is a tributary of Lake Ontario in the counties Lewis and Oswego in the northwest of the State of New York.

The Salmon River is formed east of Osceola Tug Hill Plateau on the confluence of its two headwaters East Fork and West Fork Salmon River. It then flows in a westerly direction. Hydropower plants

Brookfield Power operates two hydropower plants on the river. The Bennetts Bridge power plant uses the difference in height between the two reservoirs Salmon River and Lower Reservoir. The Light House Hill plant is located on the Lower Dam reservoir.

Leisure

In the Salmon River earlier mainly Atlantic salmon was caught. Today, in its place silver and king salmon and steelhead have entered. These were exposed here and swim in the fall to spawn from Lake Ontario to the Salmon River upstream.
