Salmon Site

Salmon Site (including Tatum Salt Dome) is an approximately 6 km2 region in Lamar County ( Mississippi). It is the only nuclear weapons test site in the eastern United States. Within the project Vela Uniform, there were two underground detonations, namely Salmonella on 22 October 1964 and Sterling on December 3, 1966.

In October 2006, the territory was transferred to the U.S. Department of Energy's Office of Legacy Management. Since 15 December 2010, the U.S. state of Mississippi is in charge again.
