Salomon Koninck

Salomon Koninck (* 1609 in Amsterdam, † August 8, 1656 ) was a Dutch painter and etcher.

He was the son of a goldsmith from Antwerp and students Pieter Lastman, David Colijns, François Venant and Claes Corneliszoon Moeyaert. War since 1630 a member of the painters' guild ( Guild of St. Luke ) to Amsterdam. He had formed at Rembrandt's in whose way he painted portraits and historical images ( but in lower power of expression and lesser wealth of coloring ) and sold them. Old men with beard ( philosopher ) was a popular topic.

Pictures of him are, among others, in Berlin ( calling of Matthew to the apostleship; Croesus shows Solon his treasures ), Schwerin ( portrait of an old man ), Dresden ( The Hermit, The Astronomer ), Brunswick and Vienna ( portrait of an old man ).
