Salto Grande Dam

Salto Grande is a hydroelectric power plant in Uruguay, located north of the Uruguayan city of Salto and the Argentine city of Concordia. The Uruguay River is dammed at the site of the reservoir Embalse Salto Grande. This lies on the border between Uruguay and Argentina. Its memory capacity is 5000 million cubic meters and its water surface area 783 km ².

Construction began in 1974, and from 1979 electricity was produced. The hydropower plant is equipped with 14 Kaplan turbines that can generate 1890 megawatts. The spillway has a discharge capacity of 64,000 m³ / s

The shut-off is 3000 m long, up to 65 m high and consists of a Erdschüttdamm combined with a gravity dam. Then run a road and a railway line connecting Uruguay with Argentina.
