Salvador Novo

Salvador Novo ( born July 30, 1904 in Mexico City; † January 13, 1974 ) was a Mexican writer, poet and official chronicler of Mexico City.

Life

Together with Xavier Villaurrutia he founded in 1927 the journal Ulises.

In 1928 he was one of the founding members of Los Contemporáneos and participated in the same journal published by them Contemporáneos.

In addition to his literary career, Novo also worked as a language teacher and taught French and English; in this language, he also wrote two books, both published in 1934: Seamen Rhymes and Never Ever.

Awards and honors

1946 Novo was appointed official chronicler of Mexico City and 1967 the Mexican literary prize Premio Nacional de Ciencias y Artes, he was awarded.

The street in Coyoacán borough in southern Mexico City, in which was the former residence of Novo today bears his name and is called calle de Salvador Novo.
