Salwey Winnington

Salwey Winnington (* 1666, † November 6, 1736 ) was a British politician.

Life

Salwey Winnington was the eldest son of Francis Winnington and his second wife Elizabeth (nee Salwey ). He had three brothers, including Edward Jeffreys, and two sisters. The later deputy Francis Winnington was a son of his brother Francis.

When the deputy Henry Herbert was raised in 1694 for Baron Herbert of Chirbury and therefore stood down from the House of Commons, Winnington candidate in the by-election in the constituency of Bewdley. Winnington belonged to the House of Commons on 19 November 1694 to 1708. In the elections of 1708 he lost to Henry Herbert, the son of Henry Herbert, 1st Baron Herbert of Chirbury and longtime rival to Winningtons parliamentary seat. When Herbert in 1709 succeeded his father as 2nd Baron Herbert of Chirbury ran Winnington not in the by-election. He only came back in 1710 in Bewdley constituency, but was defeated Anthony Lechmere. On July 24, 1690 he married Anne Foley, the daughter of Thomas Foley. From the three sons and five daughters were born. His son Thomas was also later deputy.
