Sam Lantinga

Sam Oscar Lantinga (c. 1974) is an American computer scientist. He is the creator of Simple DirectMedia Layer (SDL ), a well-known open source library for games and multimedia development.

Life

Sam Lantinga studied from September 1992 at the University of California, where he was awarded in computer science in April 1997 with a Bachelor of Science. He worked as a senior programmer at Loki Software, a company that dealt with the porting of computer games to Linux. There he began work on SDL and other open source programs. In 2001 he went to Blizzard Entertainment. Since July 2012, he works for the game makers Valve Corporation, where he participates together with other Linux game developers working on porting Steam and Left 4 Dead 2 on the Linux operating system.
