Sam Rainsy Party

The Sam Rainsy Party ( SRP, Pak Sam Rainsy or Kanakpak Som Raengsee, French Parti de Sam Rainsy ) is a liberal political party in Cambodia and is named after its chairman, Sam Rainsy named.

The SRP is a member of the Council of Asian Liberals and Democrats and was until 1998 the Khmer Nation Party ( KNP ). The Khmer Nation Party was a liberal party in Cambodia and was founded by the Cambodian politician Sam Rainsy 1995. Due to difficulties with the certification process to the elections to the National Assembly in 1998 it was renamed the Sam Rainsy Party. Reason for the renaming were problems with the registration for the elections to the Cambodian National Assembly.

2009 was the party formed an alliance with the equally liberal democratic human rights party. In addition, it has an observer status in the Liberal International.

2012 the party merged with the Human Rights Party to Cambodia National Rescue Party.
