Samangan Province

Samangan ( Pashto: سمنګان, Dari: سمنگان ) is a province ( velayat ) in the north of Afghanistan, bordering the provinces of Balkh, Kunduz, Baghlan, Bamyan and Sar -i Pul ( clockwise from the North). The provincial capital is Aybak. The province has 345,100 inhabitants.

In April 2010, the province of Samangan was shaken by an earthquake, pulled the deaths, injuries and destruction of houses by themselves.

Mythology

Samangan has been found in the Iranian national epic, the Shahnameh of Firdausi input. In the story of Rostam and Sohrab Samangan is mentioned as the border between Iran and Turan. The daughter of the king of Samangan, Tahmine falls in love with Rostam. Nine months after a night of love is their son Sohrab who grows up without his father, however. When the grown-up son seeks his father in Iran, he is involved in a deadly duel and stabbed to death by his father. The dying Sohrab in the arm Rostam recognizes his son on a bracelet, which he once gave Tahmine.
